A Heap of Japanese Animation News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pursuits far superior than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and employing deep breathing to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling announcements came out over the festive period, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not been disclosed yet.
